What I Read in April

Today’s post is all about the books I read in April! Can you believe another month has gone by?! How are we almost halfway through 2019? I didn’t have a great reading month in April but I still finished 3 books which is awesome considering I had a ton of schoolwork to do and I had to finish up edits on my capstone project and poster! Graduation is so close I can taste it. V excited.

If you want to catch up on what I’ve read so far this year, here are my posts from January, February, and March. And if you like keeping up with what I read in real time, you can follow me on Instagram where I post pics of what I’m reading all the time or you can add me on Goodreads!

AND in case you forgot, I’m participating in the POPSUGAR Reading Challenge this year… so I’m including what prompt I read the book for if you were curious!

14. Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

daisy jones & the six

5/5 stars.

“A book you think should be turned into a movie”.

This book was SOOO hyped up on the bookstagram community. I actually really enjoyed it though! It is told in a interview/documentary/podcast-style format. People said this was really good as an audiobook as well. Similar to The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo (which I’ve read and LOVED), this is a biopic in book form about a totally fictional singer/songwriter named Daisy Jones. It gave me all the 70’s vibes I needed and was such a fast paced read. I was so invested in these characters and the story. Definitely recommend if you’re in the mood for something different!

15. The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

the silent patient

5/5 stars.

“A debut novel”.

The Silent Patient is a psychological thriller about a woman who’s traumatized by the murder of her husband and is now mute. Most people believe she did it, but she won’t speak to say otherwise. A psychologist is determined to get her to speak again and the book follows his story working with her.

This ending rocked my world! It was a little slow to get into, but once I was about halfway through I finished this in one sitting. I was thinking this would be a 3.5 or 4-star read but the ending quickly bumped it up to one of my favs this year!

16. The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris

tattooist of auschwitz

3.5/5 stars.

“A novel based on a true story”.

I wrote about my feelings on this book on my Instagram, but basically, I was a bit underwhelmed. The story was great but I think it lacked execution. The Tattooist of Auschwitz was originally written by Morris as a screenplay which was pretty evident from the lack of description and character depth/development. I read 200+ pages about Gita and Lale and still couldn’t say much about either of their personalities. I wish there was more depth to the characters and the story!

Currently read

Right now I’m reading The Glass Castle. I know I’m a little late, but I’m happy to finally be reading it! I am about halfway through so I hopefully will finish by the end of the weekend. I’m so excited for May because I’ll have so much more time to read during the week! It’s going to be great.

What are you reading right now? What books do you want to read this summer?
