What I’ve Read Since July

q3 book update 2018

This is post 3 of my quarterly reading goal update! Back in June, I shared what I’ve read since March and now I’m gonna talk about the books I’ve read since then! It hasn’t been a lot, unfortunately, I’ve only read 4 books in the past 3 months which is not as many as I had been reading BUT I’ve read 19 books at this point in the year. I am still on track to hit my 2018 goal of 25 books! I’m proud of how I’ve stayed on top of my reading even with grad school going on and starting my fall placement.

I decided that in 2018 I would do quarterly posts to update you on the books I’ve read and my thoughts about each one. My next book post for the year will be my traditional “Year in Books” post!

FYI: you can still follow along in real-time through Goodreads or my Instagram!

16. Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

little fires everywhere

4/5 stars.

I received this book in my BOTM box a while ago and I’m so glad I finally got around to reading it! The book centers around motherhood and what makes someone a good mother. I thought it was a really interesting book and I enjoyed reading it a lot. There were a lot of characters, which had me confused a few times, but even though there were a lot of characters, I felt like I was super connected with all of them which was awesome. This was the reason I was able to finish the book quickly!

17. Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn

3/5 stars.

This book took me a long time to get through because it was super slow. The characters were pretty much all extremely unlikable and therefore, I wasn’t super invested in what happened. When the show on HBO came out, I decided to finish it so I could watch the show and compare (still haven’t watched the show though). I ended up finishing the book and it got better but a lot of the “twists” were predictable. I was really disappointed that the ending was so rushed because at that point I actually became invested in the book and wanted to know more. Overall, it was pretty average but I hope to read some of Gillian Flynn’s more recent books soon!

18. Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

4/5 stars.

This was probably my favorite book I read in this quarter. Though it took me a little while to get through, I was able to finish it before seeing the movie which meant a lot to me! I enjoyed the book and the movie equally, though they were slightly different from each other. After finishing this, I immediately bought the next book so I’m hoping to read that before the end of 2018 also! The characters were super likable and funny and I loved the plot. Highly recommend reading this if you’re into rom-com type books. The only thing I thought was kind of annoying was that there were a TON of characters to keep track of and it was told in multiple perspectives which became a little confusing at times.

19. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

to all the boys i've loved before

4/5 stars.

I had this book sitting on my shelf for 4 years! When I heard there was a Netflix movie coming out, I had to make sure I read it. I’m so glad I did! I haven’t read many YA books over the past few years, but this one was cute and the main character wasn’t too annoying. It was a nice change of pace for me! I’m now reading book 2 in this series before I watch the Netflix movie. What did you think of this book/the movie? I heard Peter K. is perfect in the movie! I’m so excited to see it.

Right now, I’m reading 3 books (yikes): PS I Still Love You, Scrappy Little Nobody, and A Simple Favor. While I’m enjoying PS I Still Love You, I’m just not as into it as I was the first one. I’ve honestly been in sort of a reading slump since the middle of the summer which is unfortunate. Hopefully I can snap out of it before the end of the year! If you made it this far, leave me a comment and let me know:
