Quarantine Book Purchases + Recs

For the past month, I’ve been finding it hard to read certain types of books. I kicked off quarantine by reading and finishing After I Do by Taylor Jenkins Reid, and at that point it was all over. I’ve been drawn to reading romance lately because it gives me a story I can escape into and feel content with when I turn to the final page.

I had a few great romance picks last year, but my shelves were kind of bare from the type of romance books I was craving. I went on a spree on Target’s website (they’re delivering faster than Amazon right now and I have a Red Card so there’s a plus) and bought some fun romance books. I figured you guys would be interested in seeing a haul. I’ll also share some recs at the bottom of books I’ve already read and recommend!

New purchases.

As I mentioned, I went a little crazy buying new romance books. I’ve been scouring Goodreads for recommendations! I haven’t read these yet, so I can’t recommend them but if you want to read these alongside me I wouldn’t be mad. Here’s the stack of what I bought:

romance book haul

Yes, I went a little overboard. Here are the books I purchased and a little description of them so you know what they’re about!

— Undercover Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams

This is the sequel to The Bromance Book Club which I read earlier this month! This book just came out, so I’m excited to get to the second book in the series.

Description from Goodreads: Braden Mack thinks reading romance novels makes him an expert in love, but he’ll soon discover that real life is better than fiction.

Liv Papandreas has a dream job as a sous chef at Nashville’s hottest restaurant. Too bad the celebrity chef owner is less than charming behind kitchen doors. After she catches him harassing a young hostess, she confronts him and gets fired. Liv vows revenge, but she’ll need assistance to take on the powerful chef.

Unfortunately, that means turning to Braden Mack. When Liv’s blackballed from the restaurant scene, the charismatic nightclub entrepreneur offers to help expose her ex-boss, but she is suspicious of his motives. He’ll need to call in reinforcements: the Bromance Book Club.

Inspired by the romantic suspense novel they’re reading, the book club assist Liv in setting up a sting operation to take down the chef. But they’re just as eager to help Mack figure out the way to Liv’s heart… even while she’s determined to squelch the sparks between them before she gets burned.

— You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle

Description from Goodreads: Naomi Westfield has the perfect fiancé: Nicholas Rose holds doors open for her, remembers her restaurant orders, and comes from the kind of upstanding society family any bride would love to be a part of. They never fight. They’re preparing for their lavish wedding that’s three months away. And she is miserably and utterly sick of him.

Naomi wants out, but there’s a catch: whoever ends the engagement will have to foot the nonrefundable wedding bill. When Naomi discovers that Nicholas, too, has been feigning contentment, the two of them go head-to-head in a battle of pranks, sabotage, and all-out emotional warfare.

But with the countdown looming to the wedding that may or may not come to pass, Naomi finds her resolve slipping. Because now that they have nothing to lose, they’re finally being themselves–and having fun with the last person they expect: each other.

When your nemesis also happens to be your fiancé, happily ever after becomes a lot more complicated in this wickedly funny, lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy debut.

— The Happy Ever After Playlist by Abby Jimenez

If you haven’t read The Friend Zone, don’t read the description as there are spoilers! This is the sequel to The Friend Zone which I finished a few weeks ago and LOVED! Definitely one of my top 5 favorite romance books of all time. Definitely read that first before reading this sequel.

Description from Goodreads: From the USA Today bestselling author of The Friend Zone comes an adorable and fresh romantic comedy about one trouble-making dog who brings together two perfect strangers.

to all the boys i've loved before

— To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

I’m sure you’ve heard of the Netflix movies, but it’s a book series as well! There are 3 books. I didn’t think I would enjoy them as much as I did (they’re YA) but if you’re in need of an easy-to-read romance, these books are definitely key!

crazy rich asians

— Crazy Rich Asians Series by Kevin Kwan

Another romance-based series to get lost in! I loved the CRA books (and movie!) The characters can be hard to keep up with, but the story is so fun.

after you jojo moyes

— Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

Me Before You is the first book in this series (in the pic I’m reading the second book, After You). I still need to read the last book (Still Me) but I think this series would also be a great escape during quarantine! The subject matter is a little sad (if you saw the movie you probably know what I’m talking about) but it is a really great romance-based series.
