Miami Travel Diary

miami travel diary

This post has been sitting in my drafts for WEEKS! I am so sorry it took so long for me to get it done. Anyway, here’s a recap of the fun things Ryan and I did in Miami!

At the end of August, Ryan and I took a trip to Miami for 5 days. I wanted to go somewhere fun to end the summer and Miami did not disappoint. Ryan and I had never been there before so we tried to see and do a wide variety of things. Disclaimer: we aren’t huge drinkers/partiers so we didn’t stay in South Beach very much. We tried to do as much as we could in the 5 days we were there, but Ryan was still working. Some days we had a late start because Ryan had to be on some conference calls. I still think we saw a lot of awesome things in 5 days!

Our Airbnb.

We decided to stay in a place in North Bay Village. It was quiet and close to both Miami Beach and the Downtown area. This Airbnb was a great choice and we were really happy there! Our host was amazing and super accommodating. Would highly recommend staying here if you’re looking to book a trip to Miami.

PS: If you have never tried Airbnb but you want to, now is the perfect time to sign up! When you sign up today you’ll get $40 towards your next trip and I’ll get $20 for showing ya!

Wynwood.

wynwood

We started out walking around the Wynwood neighborhood. It was super trendy and cute and we loved walking around! Obviously, Miami is super super hot (even more so in the dead of summer + very humid!) so, admittedly, we didn’t do too much walking. We had a rental car that we drove around the whole time we were there. The highlights of Wynwood were Wynwood Walls, Wynwood Yard, and the Wynwood Marketplace. Wynwood Walls is a huge outdoor art gallery. There’s a small indoor portion too that has A/C if you need a break from the heat! There were tons of really awesome murals and it was 100% free to walk around. Wynwood Yard is an outdoor food truck market. There’s a bar there and live music occasionally as well. We went in the middle of the afternoon at an odd time. It wasn’t quite lunch but not yet dinnertime, so we were some of the only people there. It was really good though and I recommend checking it out! Lots of really interesting food trucks and a great stop for lunch or late-night vibes. Wynwood Marketplace is just what it sounds like! An outdoor market located in the Wynwood neighborhood.

Hollywood Beach.

Ryan and I enjoyed walking up and down the “boardwalk” at Hollywood Beach! Our Airbnb host recommended we check it out and we were glad we did! It goes pretty far so it would be cool to rent bikes and ride around the area as well.

Calle Ocho.

We had a short stop at Calle Ocho but we were sure to try the ice cream at Azucar (picture of my ice cream is in the food section below)! There was a live band playing music right next door. The street seemed to be filled with lots of good vibes, so I definitely recommend checking it out!

Millionaire’s Row Cruise.

This was a really cool cruise and I’m glad we decided to do it! The boat took you around to view homes that are only able to be seen from the water. So many famous celebs have homes in Miami! It was a nice break from walking/driving around and I loved being on the water.

Coconut Grove.

We walked around for a little while after eating brunch at Greenstreet Cafe but didn’t spend too much time here. There were some shops around and cafes and restaurants as well. There was a state park nearby too that you could check out but the sign said there was a fee and we didn’t end up going in.

South Beach/Haulover Beach.

We spent some time at Haulover Beach and South Beach. We spent an afternoon at Haulover Beach and we loved it because it was really quiet and not too crowded. The water was super clear and we swam for like 30 minutes straight because it felt so nice! There are spots on this beach that are ~nude~ but we went to a part that wasn’t. If you’re sketched out about that I promise it was fine. There were kids playing right next to us and not a nude sunbather in sight!

We sat on South Beach from ~4-6pm and it wasn’t packed either. Ryan and I are both fair skinned so we opted to head to the beach later in the day so we weren’t getting the strongest of the sun’s rays. I loved it though. I read so much in my book and just felt super relaxed!

Coral Gables.

We met some of Ryan’s friends here for dinner one night and it was a nice area with lots of restaurants and bars. We walked around for a little while after eating dinner. I heard there are lots of old historic homes in this area but we never made it out to check them out. Definitely something to look into during your trip!

Places we ate.

The Salty Donut — Super delicious donuts! Get there early before they sell out

Yardbird Southern Table & Bar — One of our FAVORITE places in Miami. Definitely pricey but SO good.

Blocks Pizza — We ordered a pizza from here to take out and eat before we went to the beach. It was honestly really delicious and the perfect late lunch before hanging out on South Beach.

The Local House

Wynwood Yard — World Famous House of Mac was where I ate at Wynwood Yard! The mac & cheese was really good and the portions were generous!

Joe & the Juice (multiple locations throughout Miami) — tbh one of the best smoothies I’ve ever had

El Rancho Grande

Kith — This place is ~famous~ because they grind up different cereals and put it in the ice cream. It was good, but expensive. If you’re wanting to try it I think it’s worth it but don’t go out of your way for it if you couldn’t care less.
