What I Read in March

Andddd we’re back with the March 2020 edition of what I read!!! This post contains affiliate links.

Each month in 2019, I recapped the books I read and shared some thoughts about them. In these posts, I will also share any new books I purchased and what BOTM book I chose (you can sign up for BOTM here… I’ve been a member since 2017 and I love it so much!)

MY 2020 READING GOAL.

As of today I’ve read 8 books! My Goodreads challenge reading goal is 52 books this year. I challenged myself to read 52 books in 2019 but fell short by 10. It’s not looking too great for me right now either, honestly haha. I’m about 5 books behind schedule — yikes! It has been a slow few months of reading but I’m hoping I can make up some ground over the next few weeks of social distancing.

BAD B*TCH BOOK CLUB.

I joined an online book club and I’m really excited about it! I even bought some merch 😉 This book club is mostly virtual (depending on your city, there are in-person meetups as well) and books are chosen through a virtual vote. The Facebook group has over 1,000 members and the picks have been amazing so far. I’ve read all of the BBBC books so far this year. April’s pick is The Bromance Book Club. I am really loving this book club format especially due to COVID. It encourages me to read something different each month that I may or may not have on my shelves already. I’m hoping to read some of the previous books from 2019 as well!

3. Red at the Bone by Jacqueline Woodson

red at the bone

3/5 stars.

I read this one in early March for the Bad Bitch Book Club February pick! I think I actually finished it March 1st. It was definitely something different for me to read but I enjoyed it! It was a really quick book, I thought the characters were really interesting and well-developed. It is a hugely character-driven story so if you’re into those kinds of books you’ll love this!

4. Such A Fun Age by Kiley Reid

such a fun age

3/5 stars.

This one was highly anticipated for me but I wasn’t totally in love with it. It took me a while to read and I wasn’t fully grabbed by the story at the beginning. I’ve heard lots of mixed reviews for this one so take my thoughts with a grain of salt! Just because I didn’t love it doesn’t mean you won’t!

5. After I Do by Taylor Jenkins Reid

after i do

5/5 stars.

THIS BOOK. I absolutely love Taylor Jenkins Reid. She’s one of my favorite authors. I really loved this book and it definitely kicked off the romance-kick that I’m currently on haha. It was the Bad Bitch Book Club’s March pick! Highly recommend this one to anyone who needs some romance books in their life and wants to truly get away from all this COVID nonsense.

6. The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

the last mrs parrish

4/5 stars.

This book was borrowed from a friend so I was happy to be able to read it during quarantine! Now I’ll be able to get it back to her when all of this is over. This was another book I quickly got into and couldn’t put down. It read like a soap opera to me and I was instantly hooked and waiting for the next thing to come up. Definitely didn’t have the best message toward the end, but I still loved it for what it was. Not necessarily a thriller, but had some elements of it. I’d say it more aligns with a soap opera haha.

BOTM April Pick(s).

I always get a ton of questions about which book I picked for my BOTM box so I decided to add it into my monthly reading round-ups! In March, I picked: A Good Neighborhood and The Two Lives of Lydia Bird.

April, I decided to go with: Beach Read and The Guest List.

I’ve been a BOTM member since May 2017 and I love it! It’s the best book subscription box I’ve found. Every month, Book of the Month chooses five books and I get to pick the one I want. If none of the books appeal to you, you can skip! Credits roll over into the following month. (If you sign up with my referral link, we’ll both get a free book!)

Books I Bought in February/March.

february/march book stack

Some new purchases this month! I’ve read 3 of these so far which makes me feel #proud because I’m always the type of person to put off reading new books for a long time (I guess I feel guilty about books that are already on my shelves lol). Have you read any of these? Which one(s) should I read next?

Currently Reading.

I am KILLING it so far in April… if I do say so myself! I’ve read two books already and it’s only day 4 of the month. I have spring break next week so I’m hoping to keep reading at the pace I have been and knock out some more books! I’ve been keeping track of my reads using a reading tracker template on my stories. I know it’s dumb, but I always read more when I’m sharing and keeping myself accountable. I finished reading The Friend Zone (amazing… can’t wait for the sequel!) and The Bromance Book Club (Bad Bitch Book Club’s April pick).
