Home Update & Recent Home Purchases

Today’s post is a home update and I’ll be sharing all the recent home purchases we’ve made! Ryan and I closed on our first home together last month and it has been a whirlwind of a few weeks. I’ve been taking lots of pictures but none are really edited and super fancy so please forgive the raw & realness of the pics I’m sharing today!

It has been a wild few weeks settling into the house while also trying to navigate the start of the school year at home! Here’s a few updates on what the past month has been like…

Home updates and projects.

We moved out of our apartment! We called this place home for 3 years and we will truly miss it. It was an amazing apartment within walking distance of restaurants and shops in town. Luckily, our new home is also walking distance!

Once we closed on the house, it took us AN ENTIRE WEEK to clean the house. It was honestly a nightmare. But we did that and then completed some little projects around the house like installing ceiling fans and power washing the exterior and garage (I had a great time with that job).

My mom had been taking tons of pictures whenever they were over to help us. This one makes me laugh. She was taking a picture of me measuring the window and Ryan was just standing next to me watching. Then she told him to “pose!” and this was what he did lol.

We had lots of help from friends & my parents to move periodically over ~two weeks. We moved slowly because we couldn’t move into the house right away. Which brings me to my next update….

We refinished the wood floors! They are hardwood and had never been refinished before. A quick Google search told me that typically floors should be refinished every 8-10 years. Our home is 8 years old (built in 2012) so it was about time to invest in this anyway.

We just decided to switch up the color to something more timeless and a bit less… 2012? Haha. We are obsessed with the color and really glad we decided to go for it! The color we chose was Duraseal Medium Brown (the top color in this pic!)

Here’s what the floors look like now that they’re finished! We went with a semi-gloss top coat which also made it seem way more modern.

Decorating/Furnishing.

One of the best parts about going from a 700 sqft apartment to a 2000 sqft house is the opportunity to purchase new furniture and home decor pieces that really reflect your current style! This is the journey we are on right now.

I don’t think I’m an overly indecisive person but I do love to feel GOOD about buying something before I commit to it. So it has been a bit of a journey finding pieces I like to furnish the house. Right now, I’m focusing on buying the big furniture pieces and then shopping for little things/decor after the fact. I’ll probably go room by room for that so it’s not overwhelming. Here are some things we’ve purchased already:

Deck.

Grill — this was one of our first purchases because we’re so excited to have an outdoor space and that we can grill stuff just steps outside our door!

Outdoor couch with chaise and coffee table — I actually found this for a great deal on FB Marketplace! Originally bought on Wayfair.

Outdoor dining table and chairs — After finding the couch we have on Wayfair, we were able to scope out a matching table and chairs set from Target. I couldn’t find the exact set (we got the table and chairs separately) so I linked a similar set that’s the same gray/blue color. We built the chairs last night so here’s a pic:

Outdoor umbrella — Ryan found and purchased this one for us! It has lights on the underside that are solar powered. I love it so far! It’s pretty big and perfect for what we needed. It’s from Overstock (I have a similar one linked).

Outdoor fire table — Our table, chairs, and sofa are all Christopher Knight designer/brand. He also makes this propane fire table that we thought would be perfect out on the deck for cooler nights!

Outdoor string lights — we found a set at Lowe’s and I’m impressed with the quality! They are super heavy duty.

Kitchen.

Kitchen table with chairs & bench — Purchased from Wayfair! I love the midcentury modern style mixed with other contemporary and farmhouse elements. My style is kind of all over the place but I think it will look cool all put together! (Light fixture was left by the seller of the house… not sure how I feel about it yet. It’s cool but not necessarily my style)

Living Room.

Living room sectional — We decided to go with the Macy Radley sectional! We wanted the gray but it was sold out so we went with the Heavenly Oyster White color. I’ve come around to the thought of it, I just hope we can keep it clean lol…

Bedroom.

King size mattress, pillows, etc. — After polling y’all on IG, we decided to go with Nectar for our new mattress! There was a Labor Day sale that gave us free pillows, sheets, and mattress topper so we got those new accessories as well

Bed frame — From Target! I’m really into the contemporary/farmhouse look for our master bedroom

Miscellaneous.

Christmas tree — This was something we needed that I saw on sale when I was buying the kitchen table so I went for it! Also from Wayfair. I can’t wait to have a big tree in our living room!
