A Day in the Life: Social Distancing Edition

My second post for the #WriteMyDrafts challenge! This was the second place winner. I wrote about my grad school must-haves last week. Since social distancing started, I’m lucky to be working from home as a speech therapist! I’m seeing my students online via Zoom which is challenging, but it’s getting easier with each passing week. Since we’ve been home-bound, Ryan and I have settled into a routine. Here’s what my day and week looks like in quarantine:

Weekday Mornings.

I have my alarm set for 8:00 but I don’t really get dressed and ready right away. Depending on if I have meetings or not, sometimes I’ll work out right away on the Peloton and then shower. Other days I’ll shower right away and get ready for my meetings for the day. Ryan has been taking lots of morning walks lately too, and I’m hoping to join him once it’s not as cold.

Weekday Afternoons.

I’ll continue working on reports, having speech sessions and meetings, and emailing/texting with coworkers until my last meeting of the day. Then I’ll shut it down and either pick up a book or, if Ryan’s ready, go for a walk with him! We’ve been driving over to a local park that’s like 5 minutes away and it has been great. Or we’ll walk out our front door and do a walk around downtown West Chester. In both scenarios, we’ll do two big laps around the town/trail and that usually takes us 30 minutes and is about a 2 mile walk. There are some hills so it gives us a good workout!

I’ve also been doing some workout videos from my studio, SoulBeat. They are offering totally virtual workouts right now: spin classes, barre, HIIT, and some stretching/yoga. The workouts are so great! You can sign up online through MINDBODY and it’s awesome because anyone, anywhere can take classes and support my favorite small business! If you aren’t available for the class time, you can email and let them know that you want to watch the class later! All the rest of the rules for signing up are on their Instagram. Highly recommend you check them out!

Weekday Evenings.

After our walk, Ryan and I will make dinner and watch a show for a little bit. Then, usually around 9:00, I’ll pick up my current book and unwind for the night while he plays some video games.

Lately I’ve been trying to finish a book in 2-3 days and I’ve stuck with it so far this month! I’m participating in the BBBC romance challenge and we’re reading/discussing a book per week on Tuesday nights. It has been highly motivating for me!

On Friday nights, my best friends Kelsey and Lauren and I have a Happy Hour whenever we are done the things we need to do for the day! It has been great to catch up with them and unwind after a busy week.

Weekends.

On Saturday, I’ll workout in the morning and we’ll usually do any errands we need to do. I’ll spend most of my day reading (outside, if I can!) and Saturday is my “baking day”. I try a new recipe each week which is fun! I’ve been thinking about putting some recent recipes in a blog post if you’re interested in seeing what I’ve made so far.

Sunday is usually another chill day. We’ll watch a show or movie, and I’ll work on the blog and read a lot. The weekends have been pretty boring around here!

Staying inspired.

I try to set a goal for myself every day. It keeps the days from running together and I feel so much more accomplished at the end of the day! One of my friends, Mia, posts these amazing daily challenges and I absolutely love them. I highly recommend following her because she posts them every day and it’s a great reminder of the day’s challenge! I don’t always participate, but I try my best to! I’ve started baking more because of her Saturday/Sunday challenges.

Here’s an example of two of her daily challenges:
