Easy Matilda Costume + Halloween Recap

Here’s a quick little recap of our Halloween this year! I actually wanted to get this post up yesterday, but it didn’t happen. So we’re stretching Halloween out for one more day, hope ya don’t mind 😉 If you didn’t know, Halloween is one of my fav holidays. I love dressing up and it being socially acceptable to eat pounds of chocolate and candy for the month! This year, Ryan and I went to my friend Amanda’s Halloween party on Halloween night. It was so much fun and the weather was absurdly warm. Here’s what we dressed as and links to the items we used to create the costumes!

Ryan’s Costume.

Ryan decided what he was being for Halloween pretty much right away. I had a harder time because, as his costume wasn’t really able to become a “couples costume”, I felt some pressure to pick a solo costume that I’d been wanting to do for a while.

Ryan decided he was going to be “fat Thor” as he has been dubbed from the last Avengers movie, End Game. Some people knew who he was, but he had to fill in a few people throughout the night. He took off the wig and beard pretty quickly as it got hot and it was actually 72 degrees outside on Halloween #crazy.

Honestly, I think he nailed it. He found all the items himself on Amazon or Target. Here are links for what you need to recreate this look: beard and wig, sweatshirt, robe, pajama pants, gloves, Thor’s hammer, sunglasses.

My Costume.

I ended up deciding the week of Halloween that I was going to be Matilda! My grandmother called me Matilda when I was growing up and, with my new haircut & color, I actually looked more like her than ever before. This costume came together pretty miraculously, actually. Here’s the story:

Once I decided I was going to be Matilda, I was planning to just wear a sleeveless chambray dress I had in my closet and a white cardigan. However, I didn’t have my white cardigan anymore so I needed to get a new one from Target or Old Navy. NBD, right? It’s a pretty common closet staple. WRONG. I couldn’t find a white cardigan anywhere! So, I wandered around Old Navy to see if I could put together another outfit that could pass as Matilda. I ended up finding this blue dress with flowers in the clearance section for super cheap! I was so happy… it was perfect. It ended up matching the photo I had of Matilda almost exactly.

I got the bow headband from Amazon for $7. I wore my own black sneakers with a pair of Ryan’s white socks that I rolled down to complete the ~look~. A few people thought I was Kiki from Kiki’s Delivery Service, but when I was holding my books as a prop they knew exactly who I was!

Overall, it was an awesome night and I can’t wait for Halloween to fall on a Saturday next year! So exciting.

What did you dress as for Halloween this year? Did you go out or stay in and hand out candy? Did you watch any scary movies or read any scary books this spooky season? What were your favs?
