things to track in your planner

Since writing the 4th annual Planner Post, I’ve been trying to get creative both with how I do my weekly spreads as well as what I’m actually tracking in my planner. I always try to keep my layouts super functional and practical but I’ve been including some new things in my spreads every week and in notes pages throughout the planner. I figured I’d share what those things are! Hopefully this post sparks some new ideas and inspiration to keep your life on track this school year.

All of the items shown in today’s post are available at Office Depot and OfficeMaxOffice Depot and OfficeMax are offering low prices all summer long on a great selection of top-brand school supplies. If you still need to snag some back to school items, definitely check out what they have! I especially love their TUL® Student Planner and the Office Depot® Brand Reversible Sequin Notebook. Both are super fun and definitely an essential when heading back to class. You guys know I’m all about pens, and the TUL® Brights Gel Pens are perfect to use in your planner or notebook or just to color code your class notes!

If you love tracking things like I do, you might run out of room in your planner. That’s why I love having a catch-all notebook to keep any meeting notes and lists that are important to me. I never leave the house without a notebook and this one is adorable and so portable!

Habit tracking

Some examples could include: hitting your water intake goal, reading everyday, going to the gym, hitting 10k steps, writing in a journal, taking your vitamins… the list is endless! You can track these things weekly or monthly.

Assignments

Of course, you should use your planner to track your school assignments!

Birthdays, anniversaries, holidays

Birthdays of friends and family members, anniversaries, and fun holidays.

Books, movies, and TV shows (release dates/start dates)

Track when new books, movies, and TV shows are released! Definitely putting This Is Us and The Good Place in my planner for the fall.

The last time I…

Having this spread is GAME CHANGING! This can help you stay on top of things like getting your oil changed, cleaning your makeup brushes, things like that.

Meal planning

Keep yourself on track by documenting your meals and planning out what you’ll have for breakfast/lunch/dinner during the week.

Grocery list

What are your go-to grocery items? Keep a list handy in your planner so you can add to it as needed.

Gratitude

What are you grateful for? It’s important to take a step back and be thankful and grateful for the little things in your life. Do daily, weekly, or monthly gratitudes!

Bugeting

Carve out a space in your planner to track your budget! Us broke college girls have to stay accountable.

Books you read

I mostly keep track of this on Goodreads but I like having a physical copy of the list of books I’ve read in my planner also!

Chores

Spread out your chores over a few weeks and mark everything down in your planner so you don’t have to spend an entire weekend deep cleaning your apartment.

Bucket list/seasonal bucket list

Keep a running bucket list in your planner somewhere! I just made a fall bucket list that was super fun to create. Watch a scary movie, carve a pumpkin, go apple picking… the possibilities are endless.

Travel lists/planning

I can’t be the only one who has a running list of cities/countries I want to travel to. Keep that in your planner! You can also use your planner to keep track of where you want to go on a specific trip. Food places, museums, attractions… keep track of it all there!

Emotions

Color code, use symbols, or just write out the days where you felt happy, sad, anxious, etc. It can be helpful to track your mood and feelings in your planner!

Semester/yearly goals

Goal setting is something super important so I love to set semester and yearly goals for myself. Where do I want to be a year from now? 4 months from now? It’s always good to have that little check-in with yourself to remind yourself of your focus.

Weather

At the beginning of the week, write out the highs and lows for each day and what the weather might be like! It can help you plan your days and outfits.

Wishlist

Keep a Christmas list or general wishlist in your planner! What items are you coveting? Keep track in your planner’s note section.

Blog posts/Instagram posts scheduling

If you’re a blogger, YouTuber, or Instagrammer, you know how important it is to keep your schedule in line! Plan out your content for the upcoming weeks.

Course schedule

Find a spot in your planner to track your course schedule for the semester and what days/times you have class! It might also be helpful to keep track of the classes you have taken/still need to take to graduate and their credits.

Sports games

Do you have a favorite professional or college team? Include their game days in your planner! I love to keep mine in the monthly view.

Fitness goals (steps, calories, workouts, water intake)

By tracking these things, you can be more conscious of it and reach those goals even faster!
