Chit Chat + Life Updates No. 14

It has been a hot sec since I’ve posted a life update post so I figured now would be the perfect opportunity to fill you in on what’s been happening these past few weeks and share some pictures! As always, this post contains life updates, books I’ve read since the last chit chat post, TV shows and movies I’ve been watching, podcasts I’ve been listening to, and some recent purchases! Let me know what you’ve been watching/reading/listening to in the comments! I love hearing what you’re up to.

LIFE UPDATES

  • The past two weekends have been crazy! Two weekends ago, Ryan and I went to the Phillies with some of my classmates from school which was fun but it was FREEZING. Summer can show up anytime now! On Saturday I went to spin, visited my parents & my pup, and then drove up to my friend Kelly’s house for her birthday. It was really cool to see her and celebrate with her and some other friends from college. Then on Sunday my mom and I went to see a local theatre’s production of Legally Blonde which was super fun!

  • This past weekend Ryan and I drove down to Charlottesville, VA to see my brother play baseball! My parents went down too and my aunt and uncle who are from NOVA. I’ve been to Charlottesville once before but Ryan had never been so we had some fun driving around and trying some breakfast spots! Most of our time was spent at the ballpark but it was nice to be outside and enjoying the sunshine.

  • This summer I’ll be taking two classes. The schedule is really weird and sporadic but for the most part, I’ll be in class two days a week (Wednesday/Friday) and then I’ll be picking up clients in the clinic for the other days of the week!
  • Spring semester is almost over which is funny because I felt like the whole beginning of the semester was DRAGGING and now I’m almost done with my third semester of grad school!
  • This Thursday I have an “interview” with one potential externship site for next year. I’m really excited to find out where I’ll be placed in the fall semester so hopefully this interview is one step closer to figuring that out!
  • I’ve been listening to a few new podcasts lately! I finished listening to a podcast called IN THE DARK which was an investigative podcast looking into a police department’s “botched” investigation of a missing persons case from the 80’s. I’m also listening to UNDISCLOSED which is about the Adnan Syed case from Serial but with MUCH more detail and even more tidbits about the case. I find these investigative podcasts super interesting so if you have any more recs let me know!

  • TV shows I’ve been watching: Ryan and I are watching the latest season of New Girl on Hulu! It feels like the show was on break for SO long and although I’m sad it’s the final season, we’re loving it. If you watch, what do you think of the fast-forward? I’m watching Gilmore Girls (Netflix) on my own right now and it’s the first time I’ve ever watched it. My best friend Kelsey has talked about this show for years (it’s her favorite) but I haven’t ever watched. I’m still on season 1 but I’m definitely more invested this time than I was before so I definitely think I can get through the whole thing! I watched the first episode of Rise (Hulu) and I liked it but I haven’t watched another episode yet. Do you watch? It’s definitely up my alley and giving me some serious Glee vibes!
  • Movies we saw: Game Night; Love, Simon; A Quiet Place; Avengers: Infinity War — My favorites were Love, Simon and Infinity War, for sure! Quiet Place is 100% not up my alley but I went anyway to please Ryan. It was good but I just don’t enjoy having anxiety when watching a movie!
  • What I’ve read: Since we last talked I read FOUR (!!!) books: Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine (4/5 stars), A Stranger in the House (4/5 stars), I Am Watching You (4/5 stars), and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (4/5 stars). I’ve been super busy on the reading front as you can tell! I read 1.5 books when Ryan and I took our 3-day trip to Galveston which I was pretty proud of.
  • I’m currently reading The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas which has been really good and eye-opening so far. I’m about halfway through!

WHAT I’M LOVING

  • Warm weather — Obviously really pumped about the warmer temps these past few weeks! Winter felt like forever even though I was lucky enough to take two trips to the sunshine this year.
  • Taking walks with Ryan — we did this in the late summer/fall when we first moved in but we’ve been taking walks around town or at the community park that’s like 5 minutes away. It has a track and a couple of baseball fields so it’s fun to see the kids play as we go by!
  • Reading before bed — I have an alarm/notification that goes off every night at 9pm reminding me to read. I’ll try to stop whatever I’m doing and read a bit. I time myself to make sure it’s at least 20 minutes. I wouldn’t have gotten any reading done this semester if I hadn’t started doing this!
  • Sixers — unfortunately, they lost last night but Ryan and I have been cheering on the Sixers big time this season! We’ve gone to our fair share of games over the last 4 years when the Sixers were terrible but it’s awesome to see them doing so well now! #TrustTheProcess, fam.
  • Updating my workout playlist — if you didn’t know, I have a public workout playlist that I (try to) update every Sunday night! I put my favorite spin songs on it ranging from EDM and pop to hip-hop and rap.

What have you been up to lately? Is your semester over yet? Are you taking finals? How’s it going?
