The Guys Behind the Blog: July Edition

This is my first time joining a link up and I’m really excited about it! For those of you who don’t know about this link up, it is hosted by Betsy at Heavens to Betsy. Each month, she comes up with a list of questions and has her fiance answer them on her blog. When I stumbled upon her post, I knew I had to make ask Ryan to do it. The link up doesn’t officially begin until next week, but I have a few other things planned for then so I decided to get a head start and post it today!

Ryan has been a YouTuber for a few years now (check out some of my cameos here, here, here, and here) and has watched me up my blogging game this summer. I was talking with him one night and convinced him to start his own blog for his YouTube channel!

He’s been working hard on it for the past few weeks trying to make it perfect and I’m excited to be the first to reveal his new blog! Check it out here: http://itsalhill.com/

Here are the questions (and Ryan’s answers!) for July’s Guys Behind the Blog Link Up. It’s about food so of course he went all out. These answers were completely written by him without any help from me and he found all the photos himself!

The Guys Behind the Blog: July Edition

1. What is your all-time favorite food?

Popeyes and Chick Fil A – I’d rather go to my grave than choose to only have one for the rest of my life. I love Popeyes for the spicy chicken. I love spicy/buffalo anything, especially chicken. Chick Fil A’s spicy chicken doesn’t compare, but Chick Fil A sauce makes the meal. I will put Chick Fil A sauce on anything. Anytime I have an extra packet at home I will try it on burgers, steaks, pork, even my Popeyes. I grew up eating pretty much anything. I am happy eating chicken everyday and even happier eating it with cajun/waffle fries. And don’t forget about the lemonade!

If you check the hashtag #chickfilafriday on Instagram and pick a random photo, odds are it will lead you to me.

2. Who is the cook between you and your significant other?

We like to cook together even though I would consider myself the more experienced cook. I spend many months traveling for work so I’ve had a lot of practice cooking for myself. We enjoy (trying) to cook things together. We have been living together recently and try to only go out once a week. The main reason I like to cook is to eat healthier. If I go out, I don’t want to pay more for a salad or grilled chicken pasta when I can get a burger and other heart attacks for less! I mainly enjoy cooking because I love eating and when I cook that means Kayla is on dish duty! But when it comes to baking I don’t compare to her talents!

3. What is the weirdest thing you have ever eaten?

Crocodile & Kangaroo Jerky… To me, it didn’t taste any different than other types of jerky.

Try it, mate… for Steve Irwin

4. Are there any foods that you absolutely detest?

I’m not a picky eater but I hate cabbage, sour kraut (smell), and black eyed peas (not the group I love their music).

5. What is your favorite local, little-known, or hole in the wall place to eat?

My favorite “local” place is a BBQ joint in Norman, Oklahoma called Ray’s BBQ. I grew up in Oklahoma eating “country” or “hearty” meals and that drives my love for meat and sides like beans, potatoes, corn, coleslaw, cornbread, etc! Ray’s is little known nationwide but well known in Norman (4.7 on Google reviews!).

Ray’s BBQ is set up in an old Pizza Hut restaurant. I never knew it as a Pizza Hut, though. I’m sure many answers to this question have the same visual appeal as Ray’s! You can’t drive past this place without stopping. The only thing Ray’s is missing to live up to the stereotype of “hole in the wall” is to move from the parking lot of the strip mall to the corner of the strip!

The Oklahoma Sooners are very popular in Oklahoma. Since the Sooners are located in Norman, many restaurants have a Sooner theme. Ray’s BBQ is decorated with pictures and memorabilia of the Sooners. The pictures are of players, coaches, and fans eating at Ray’s.

BBQ is my favorite type of food. Just typing the name made me strongly reconsider changing my all-time favorite food from Chick Fil A and Popeyes to BBQ (Rays & Dickies BBQ). I live in PA now, so I only get to have Ray’s every few years when I visit Oklahoma. When it comes to BBQ, I move away from the chicken and onto pork and ribs. Pulled pork sandwiches are my favorite!

If you’re not already on Google searching for pictures of food like I am while writing this post, here is the website for Ray’s Smoke House BBQ.

Conclusion

This might be my first and only “man behind the blog” post. After reading this love story between deep fried chicken and I, you’d think that would be the reason I won’t able to post again (due to health issues or Kayla’s jealously). However, the real reason will be because my computer background is now a juicy pile of pulled pork instead of a picture of Kayla and I.

Okay, well, I think he did a pretty good job answering these questions, don’t you? I might just have to forgive him for loving food more than me and ask him to come back on the blog next month. What do you think?

Ryan took me to Ray’s when we visited Oklahoma in December, and it was very good! I, of course, have always known about his Chick Fil A/Popeyes/BBQ addiction but I didn’t know that he’s eaten crocodile & kangaroo jerky!

If you’re interested in joining this link up and letting your man take over, the link up is scheduled for Thursday, July 30th and will stay open through Friday, August 7th!

I love this! It’s funny because from time to time, I make my boyfriend take my pictures so he’s a “guy behind the blog” too. (Whether or not he likes it! Lol.) x Nicole | http://www.changeanddress.com

This is seriously so fun. I’ll have to see if I can convince my husband to do it haha! He must be pretty brave to eat crocodile and kangaroo jerky!

    • July 27, 2015 / 12:37 pm

You definitely need to get your husband to do it! It was really fun for me to read his answers 🙂

  12. July 27, 2015 / 7:42 pm

OK, how can I convince my man to start his own blog and YouTube channel, too??? He not-so-subtly loves appearing on mine and frequently asks if he can “guest post,” but I think he should just go for it already and start his own empire. Haha! Go our men!

Hahaha that’s awesome! Ryan was into YouTube longggg before I was a blogger, but I think it’s so cool that we’re a “blogging couple” LOL. He’ll sit at his computer editing a video or writing a post while I’m on my laptop writing a post for my blog. It’s great. We blog & vlog about completely different topics, of course, but it’s nice to have a hobby in common!

  13. July 27, 2015 / 8:03 pm

This is such a cute post! I’d love to read more guest posts like this, it was so sweet! 🙂
