6 Ways to Know if You're Dating Your Best Friend - Kayla Blogs

Happy Ryday everybody! I apologize that posts this week have been few and far between, but that doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten about you. This week I’m going to be doing Ryday a little differently. I’ve decided to give Ryan a break this week!

Ryan and I have been together for almost 4 years and I truly believe this is because we aren’t just boyfriend/girlfriend, we are also best friends. What I think is most interesting about our relationship is that we didn’t know each other before we started dating. Over time, Ryan and I have become best friends and I definitely think it has allowed our relationship to blossom in the best way. If you’re dating your best friend, you usually know you have something special. But just in case you don’t, I’ve compiled 6 ways to know if you’re dating your best friend.

You Know You’re Dating Your Best Friend If…

1. You have more inside jokes than you can count.

Ryan and I are usually always laughing about something. I really enjoy the times we spend together laughing and goofing around… they are some of my best memories with him!

2. You care about their interests even if they aren’t always in line with yours.

Ryan is into a lot of things that I could care less about. Pokemon, Funkos, video games, comics, zombies, etc. However, that doesn’t mean I won’t listen to him ramble about it for hours at a time.

3. You can sit in silence with them and not feel awkward.

Most of our nights together go like this: Ryan plays video games on his computer and I write blog posts and comment on blogs. We talk occasionally, of course, but we know how to sit in the same room together in silence and go about our own business.

4. Ordinary tasks become so much more fun when they’re around.

Grocery shopping, making dinner, cleaning the house, doing laundry, going to the gym… the list goes on and on. Ryan and I have made some great memories just doing ordinary things like this together!

5. You can be 100% honest with them no matter what.

Of course, you should never be hurtful towards your SO when you’re being honest with them. But, for example, you should feel comfortable telling them that they’re snoring too loudly at night (not that I’m speaking from experience or anything…)

6. They encourage you to be the best version of yourself.

This one is the most important which is why I saved it for last. Every single day, Ryan encourages me to be the best version of myself. He’s got my back no matter what and I’ve got his. Even if it’s a particularly rough day, I’m happy knowing that he’s behind me supporting me even when he’s 300 miles away. Best friends (and significant others) should NEVER try to tear you down. The people you love should only help build you up and show you how awesome of a human being you truly are!

Are you dating your best friend? What other identifiers would you add to this list? If you’re single, tell me about your best friend!

This is exactly how my boyfriend and I are! He’s truly my best friend, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. No one else is as supportive of me as he is, makes me laugh as hard as he does, etc. I truly love him, (and we reminder each other with the cheesy “i love you/i adore you” every 5 seconds so we never forget :P) There’s nothing better than being in love with your best friend.

These are great things to look for! You could even add, “know what each other is thinking just by a look.”

My fiance (still feels weird saying that) is my best friend and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What a sweet post! I’m not a big football fan, but I will sit and watch it on TV for hours with my boyfriend just because it makes him so happy.

I completely agree about being able to sit in silence without it being awkward! And about the inside jokes… You’re completely right! My husband and I can barely say a sentence without referencing an inside joke.

These are all so true! Especially the one about being in the same room but doing your own thing! My desk is behind our living room area, so most nights my man is on the couch watching TV while I’m doing blogger stuff. These are great
