Minimalist Gift Ideas

I’ve been thinking a lot about gift ideas for Christmas and I have seen a lot about giving non-material gifts this year. This sparked an idea for a blog post full of minimalist gift ideas for Christmas this year to reduce waste. I thought I had a solid list of some gift ideas that I could share with you all! Side note: some of these things do provide a material item, but it’s something that the gift-receiver can choose themselves so, to me, it’s a little different.

ClassPass/Gym Membership/Fitness Classes.

This was the #1 non-material thing that I could think of that I’d enjoy getting from someone for Christmas. I get my spin classes comped at my studio for working on their newsletter, but I think this is a great idea for any fitness lover in your life.

Class Pass is a monthly membership that you could offer to pay for for a year or 6 months, or whatever! Or if you know what gym they attend, offer to pay for their membership. It’s one of those annoying expenses that anyone would be thankful to have covered for them! Plus, you’re helping them better themselves in the process #win.

Movie date or a Regal Unlimited pass.

Ryan and I love going to the movies and we even have a Regal Unlimited pass! We pay a set monthly fee and we can go to the movies as many times as we want.

Even cheaper/more special option: you could also give someone else a trip to the movies to see something they really want to see! Sneak in your own candy or buy some popcorn and enjoy spending some quality time with someone you love.

Take them to dinner.

Do they have a favorite restaurant that they just don’t get to go to enough? Or a fancy spot they’ve been eyeing? This would be an awesome gift! Ryan and I got my parents a gift certificate to a good steak house near us that they had never been to. They ended up using the gift certificate for their anniversary dinner!

Book of the Month.

Technically this is material-related, but a good subscription service like BOTM is definitely one of those gifts that keeps on giving. I love getting to read new books each month that I get to pick out myself! This is a great gift for a reader in your life that you feel like has already read everything.

Donate to a charity.

There are tons of different charities out there, find one that aligns with your friend or family member’s vibe.

Netflix, Disney+, Hulu.

Pay for their subscription to one of these streaming services!

Amazon Prime.

Do they use Amazon? Pay for their yearly membership!

Concert or season tickets.

Do they have a favorite band going on tour? Or a team they love? Season tickets would be a great idea!

Photo album or scrapbook.

Such a great sentimental gift idea for someone in your life! A great way to compile pictures and memories from the past.

A class.

Cooking, sewing, photography, painting? Find something local that they can try and enjoy!

AAA membership.

Such a practical gift but something we all could use!

Food, alcohol, good coffee, your famous cookies.

A consumable gift! Something super tasty and unique could make a great gift.

Massage, manicure/pedicure, salon gift certificates.

Perfect for someone in your life who you want to pamper!

A weekend Getaway.

This website has amazing tiny cabins! Sending someone on a weekend trip like this to totally unwind would be an incredible gift.

Reusable totes, metal straws, etc.

Is your friend/family member getting into a more sustainable lifestyle? Grocery totes, metal straws, a reusable coffee cup, etc. would make a great gift that they can begin to use right away! Super practical and good for the environment, too.

What non-material or minimalist gift ideas do you have this year?
