Hi, I’m Kayla!

I’m a 28-year-old former speech-language pathologist who currently works in healthcare marketing. I live in West Chester, PA with my husband, Ryan. We also spend a lot of time in Ocean City, NJ! The beach is my happy place.

I started this website on a whim during the summer of 2014. With my freshman year of college behind me, I had the urge to share my thoughts, feelings, and advice with other college students.

I started Kayla Blogs almost 10 years ago to help new college students and, since then, it has morphed into an online documentation of my life and is still a hub of resources for college students. This blog gives me a space to write about what I love and the changes I have gone through during all stages of my life.

Here’s what I love and what I will frequently post about:

Planners & Journaling.

I have a special place in my heart for planners and I absolutely love Day Designer planners and Plum Paper Planners. In 2022, I switched to using a Hobonichi Cousin. It changed everything, and now I’m a loyal Hobonichi user!

I use my Hobonichi to document current events, shows and movies I’ve watched, and just general happenings throughout the year. It’s the best way for me to chronicle my life and experiences and the little moments I experience throughout the year.

Reading.

Currently really into thrillers, contemporary romance, and literary fiction but I’ll try almost anything! You can read more of my book posts to get a sense of what I enjoy. You can also see where I’m at in my yearly reading challenge on the sidebar of my blog and what I’m currently reading on my Goodreads page or on Storygraph!

Spin & Spotify.

Sometimes I blog about what I’m listening to, but music is just something I’ve always loved. From being a choir nerd in middle school and high school to performing in musicals and auditioning for solos, I’ve always had a strong love for music. I’m a self-taught guitarist and I love playing songs I’ve been listening to on the radio! Here’s a Spotify playlist that I’m always updating with my favs!

Going along with music is my obsession with rhythmic spin! I take classes a few times per week. Before spin, I struggled to move my body consistently and it helped me build a routine and look at exercise as joyful movement rather than a chore!

Did you buy the Day Designer Target version or did you splurge on the flagship version? I had the Target version and I loved it. The only qualm I had about it is that the binding was not the strong so eventually the planner began to fall apart.

I had the flagship edition but I received it for free. I think it held up really well, I actually did a flip through of it on my YouTube channel and pointed out the spots that suffered some wear and tear. If you have the money to splurge I would definitely say go for it!

I started my blog a few months ago, but I don’t like the website I use. Reading yours and looking at how nice it is has inspired me to update it. I’m a full time college student working two jobs, so I can understand not knowing how far my blog will go. Keep it up! I will definitely stick around.

So glad to have inspired you! It’s crazy, my blog looked nothing like this when I started. You’ll get there! Hope to see you around on more posts 🙂
