Spring Break in Galveston

The Monday before my spring break started, Ryan said he was looking at flights to Florida again. I had pretty much just accepted that I’d be spending spring break in West Chester so when he brought it up, my hopes had skyrocketed. We had been going back and forth about taking a trip for a few weeks so I told him that my heart couldn’t handle the back and forth anymore and to just let me know if he books something (I know, so dramatic). A few hours later, he texted me “I booked us a trip. But I can’t tell you anything about it.”

When he got home that night he was planning on giving me details but I had decided in the meantime that I wanted him to keep it a surprise. I didn’t know where we were going but he promised it was warm and I’d be able to get some reading done. Since he told me he was looking at flights to Florida earlier that day, I had a feeling it was somewhere there but I was wrong! I had no idea of where we were going until we boarded our flight to Houston. I talked with my friends from the area and we had narrowed it down to a few different places. As you probably guessed by the title of the post, the final destination ended up being Galveston, Texas!

Ryan and I had never been to Galveston before so I was excited to get to explore a new place. I mostly just wanted to relax though so we spent at least one of our three full days on the beach. It was perfect. We also walked 4 miles along the beach one morning which was also wonderful even though my feet and knees killed afterward!

Our hotel was just across the street from the beach which I appreciated. It’s always nice to be able to walk there and back and not have to worry about loading up a car or getting everything sandy. The beach in Galveston isn’t crazy; it’s actually pretty small depth-wise but it got the job done, for sure!

Ryan and I explored the “downtown” part of Galveston which is called The Strand after one of the street names. It was really cute with lots of shops and food places. We checked out The Mosquito Cafe (breakfast pictured above), Shipley Donuts, Taquilo’s, and ShyKatZ Cafe. We drove off the island to go to a few places as well: Craft 96 Draught House + Kitchen in League City and we had to hit up a Cane’s because it’s Ryan’s favorite place ever!

We also had to try some ice cream places on the island! We tried La Kings Confectionery which was superrrr good and Hey Mikey’s which had really interesting flavors. Ryan got one called the Irish Car Bomb and mine was the Cookie Monster which was delish.

Ryan had to rent a convertible again (he got a Camaro convertible in LA!) for the trip which was honestly a great decision. We ended up with a gorgeous blue Mustang which he even let me drive around for a bit. As soon as Ryan and I move somewhere warm, I’m 100% on board with the whole convertible thing.

While we were there, my blog ended up malfunctioning which definitely caused me some stress and tears but it all ended up working out and my site is now totally fixed!!! I also got to read 1.5 books during the trip which was awesome! I’m now 2 books ahead of schedule according to Goodreads which is awesome. I just wrote a post about the books I’ve read so far this year which you can check out here!

I enjoyed our time in Galveston and I think we had just the right amount of time to spend there. It’s not a huge place, so I think we got to see most of it in our short vaca! Ryan is honestly the best and I can’t believe I got so lucky to have a guy that will plan surprise trips for me. I can’t wait until I can do the same for him.

Have you had your spring break yet? Where did you go/what did you do?
