A Weekend in Charlottesville

Hey guys! I just came back from a weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia where I visited my brother at college for the fist time! If you didn’t know, he’s a freshman at the University of Virginia where he’s also on the baseball team! We’re all super proud of him, of course. He has worked so so hard to get to this point and it was surreal to watch him play in a college uniform in a college stadium. I took a few pictures from my weekend and wanted to share them here! UVA’s campus was beautiful and I regret not taking MORE pictures, but here’s what I have. And I’ll let you know the places we stopped to eat too!

I drove over to my parents house on Thursday night and stayed there so I would be ready to go early Friday morning! We ended up leaving around 7am after a quick stop at Wawa. Right before we got into Charlottesville, we stopped at a scenic turnout where we snapped this pic! Who do I look like more: my mom or dad?scenic turnout

Then we picked up my brother and went to lunch at Cane’s which is like, my top 2 favorite fast food places. Then we dropped Brendan off at the field for his game. This weekend was what they call “Orange and Blue World Series” which is literally just the team split into Team Orange and Team Blue and they scrimmage against each other. Brendan is on the Orange Team and although he played catcher in high school he’s been playing in left field and right field a lot lately and is doing really well! He had a game Friday night and Saturday night. Here are some pics I took during the games:

On Friday after the game we went to Ben & Jerry’s with my brother and then back to the hotel room. It had been a long day of driving! On Saturday morning, we went with my brother to breakfast around 10 but my parents took me around campus first. UVA’s campus (they call it grounds) is SO beautiful. The architecture is incredible and there’s SO much history in every building. There’s even a spot on campus where Edgar Allen Poe used to live that you can see! I took a picture of the Rotunda which is at the end of “the lawn”. They sometimes have concerts there and that’s where their graduation is held! It’s like the symbol of UVA so I had to snap a pic.

Then we went to breakfast with Brendan where we got to walk around downtown Charlottesville a bit. We ate at Grit Coffee which was pretty good! We went mostly because my brother wanted to take us there but I wouldn’t say the food was crazy or anything. And I’m not much of a coffee drinker, so I can’t really talk about that part. We dropped Brendan off at the field for pre-game workouts and then we stopped back at the hotel for a little while. My cousin, Nicholas, came to the game since he lives about 1.5 hours away from UVA. He’s a year younger than me and he went to University of North Carolina – Wilmington but last year he was drafted by the San Diego Padres so he’s not at school anymore. He’s at home now for the offseason so it was awesome to get to see him for a while. After the game, Brendan had a team dinner so Nicholas, my mom, dad, and I went to dinner at Zinburger which was good! Tons of burgers and wine options. And shakes!

Sunday morning we picked Brendan up again from his dorm and we went to breakfast again before we headed out. We went to Bluegrass Grill & Bakery! I got the cinnamon sugar french toast with cream cheese drizzled over it. It was nice to have one more meal with the fam before we left. The ride home took FOREVER (why is it that the ride home always feels longer than the ride there?!) but I finished Harry Potter book 7 and Milk & Honey so I’m now officially back on track with my Goodreads goal for the year! I only have 5 more books left and about 60 days to do it!

How was your weekend? Did you do anything special? Are you dressing up/did you dress up for Halloween? I love hearing about everyone’s costumes!

It’s so nice that you went to visit your brother! UVA looks like a beautiful school. My boyfriend and I were Jim & Pam for a Halloween party the other night! What are you dressing up as for Halloween?

That’s so nice that you got to have a family weekend! UVA looks beautiful! And I lowkey forgot that Edgar Allen Poe even lived in VA. Oops haha
