How to Survive and Thrive While Working This Summer

This is a sponsored post in partnership with Amazon Prime Student and Her Campus Media.

All words and opinions are my own.

I just started working in an office! I love putting together binders, making copies, and doing other clerical tasks. Honestly, if I weren’t going to school for speech pathology I’d want to be a real-life Pam Beasley (shout out to my fellow Office fans).

But since I’m at the office almost 12 hours each day and I work 6 days every week, it has already been tough to get through the week. I’ve been working on figuring out a schedule that works for me so that I make the most of my week. One of the ways is by doing most of my shopping online. Specifically, on Amazon! It’s such a great resource not only for busy, working girls, but also for college students thanks to FREE Two-Day shipping included with an Amazon Prime Student.

Here are some other important things I’ve learned since starting my new job that help keep me motivated and allow me to spend my free time doing the things I enjoy:

Play some music.

I always try to keep some happy music going while I’m doing any tasks that don’t require much thinking. It boosts my mood and makes me work a little faster. Especially when it’s an awesome song!

Bluetooth headphones are awesome because you can jam without being disruptive!

Stay hydrated.

As I mentioned earlier, get up and grab a drink as often as you can! I always have a cup of water or a water bottle sitting full on my desk to sip on periodically. Amazon has some really cute ones.

Take breaks.

I’m not talking about long breaks but every hour or so make sure you get up from your chair and walk around. Since Ryan is in a separate trailer from me, I like to walk over and visit him a few times a day. For those other times, stand up and take a stroll around the office. Grab a drink, say hi to a coworker, whatever it takes to get you up out of your chair a few times per hour.

I usually set my Fitbit to vibrate and give me reminders to move around every hour!

Bring your own lunch.

Sometimes it’s nice to eat out with the rest of the office, but bringing your own lunch will save you money and will probably make you happier in the long run! If you’re sitting in the same chair for at least 8 hours every day, eating unhealthily will not make you feel any better. I love these lunch bags! They fold flat and can fit in your bag at the end of the day!

Stay active.

It’s reallyyyyy hard for me to get motivated to work out after the gym so I make sure I find things that do motivate me to go. One of these things is new gear. I love shopping on Amazon for things like this, especially because of Amazon Prime Student. I get my packages super fast (FREE Two-Day shipping!) and Amazon has literally everything I could ever want or need.

I decided to get myself a new gym bag for the summer so I could change out of my work clothes before the gym. The one I bought is small but it’s perfect for fitting into gym lockers and exactly the right size for what I need. I also got a matching Blender Bottle and some new Bluetooth headphones!

Some other things you can try: switch up your workout, update your workout playlist, or bring a buddy with you to keep you going!

Use your free time wisely.

Like I said before, since so much of my time is spent at work, Ryan and I have been trying to minimize the amount of time spent doing things we don’t enjoy. From trips to the store to doing laundry, we’re forced to prioritize everything and look for ways to turn unenjoyable tasks into something more bearable. My Amazon Prime Student membership helps me get things done during the week without the hassle of having to designate those free hours of my day to running errands and driving around town (for instance, Amazon Prime Student’s FREE two-day shipping cuts down on waiting time and gets my products to me in record time). Instead, Ryan and I can catch a movie on a Saturday night or head to the lake on Sunday!

Have you ever worked over the summer? What did you do to ensure your summer was still the bomb.com?

These suggestions are great! I always loved listening to audiobooks as well at work for the days that I was working on something more redundant!

I noticed if all my workout clothes MATCH I’m a lot more ‘zen’ while working out and can really find my stride! I need my Audible, water and matching outfit and I’m good to go — for like 30 minutes anyway — until I feel like I’m dying haha!

It really is a super deal for students to get the free shipping. Our youngest daughter just finished University and Amazon came in so handy for her. The campus she was at was not in the city and it was a long bus ride to most shopping so to have the items delivered to her worked out superb!

Love this! Music is my go-to for staying alive during busy times. I love to jam at work, at home, and hopefully in the classroom where I’ll be student teaching this semester!!!

Yes! Taking breaks is so important, even if it’s just five minutes to walk around the library, stretch, & refresh your brain! :]
