Summer 2016: New York Bucket List

new york bucket list

Hello from New York! I’ve officially made the move up to live with Ryan in upstate New York for the remainder of the summer and I couldn’t be more excited to start camp and have some fun. For those of you who have been around these parts for a while, you might remember last year’s bucket list. Last summer, Ryan and I lived in Pittsburgh and I wanted to create a bucket list for us to make sure we did some cool things while we were in the area for such a long time. I’m proud to say that we nearly accomplished everything on that list. It was so much fun to document each bucket list item that I’ve decided to do round two this year!

Ryan and I are living in Fishkill which is a town that’s about an hour and a half train ride to NYC. While we hope to go there a few times this summer, I really want to do other things in the area as well! If you’re from this part of New York, let me know in the comments if there’s anything I should add to this list!

1. Hit up New York City

This one is a given, but there are so many places (mostly restaurants lol) that I’m dying to try!

2. Fahnestock State Park

This park is really close to where we’re living and there’s a campground, trails, a beach, and even boat rentals! Hopefully we’ll be able to get here more than once this summer.

3. Visit Sleepy Hollow

Sleepy Hollow is only an hour away from our apartment and it sounds like it’d be a really fun day trip!

4. Rochester, NY

5. Hudson, NY

6. Jones Beach State Park

Jones Beach is a little farther away from us, but it looks absolutely gorgeous, hopefully we can take a trip down at some point!

7. Bear Mountain State Park

As you can see, there are a TON of state parks around that look incredible. There are so many I want to see!

8. Seneca Falls

Hopefully I’ll be able to visit most (if not all!) of these places this summer. I’ll be updating this post with pictures and other fun anecdotes about our time there as the summer progresses, so be sure to follow along!

AH! Upstate is where I’m from! Jones Beach is a must, I love Long Island beaches! Check out Fire Island while you’re there – they have the cutest lil’ lighthouse. I have tons of family in Rochester, which has a great mall with tons of great stores and the town itself is really nice. And for NYC- no matter where you go it’ll be a blast. If you’re ever in Syracuse, let me know!

If you’re able to splurge in NYC and love broadway, check out Starlight Diner! Singing waiters and dancers and the like!

Totally jealous of you up in NY! I’ve never been anywhere up there except New York City, but your bucket list sounds sooooo fun. And that’s so cool that you’re with Ryan, too – can’t wait to see ya’lls adventures!

Yay! That’s so exciting! I hope you enjoy your summer in New York! If you have extra time, you should try to go to Lake Placid and visit the Olympic Training Center! I had so much fun when we took our campers there.

New York is one of my favorite places. About 4 years ago I visited the Catskills mountains and it’s a beautiful state!

I love a good bucket list! If you ever end up in Brooklyn, head over to Zona Rosa and get a pineapple (or watermelon!) jalapeno margarita. They’re all made fresh and from scratch and it’s been two years since I’ve had one and I still think about them!

I’m from CT, and I’m sad to say I haven’t been to many of these–looking forward to keeping them on my list for when I visit! Have fun!

That’s so fun to spend a summer in a new place and get to explore. I love that you and Ryan and really trying to expand your horizons and explore new cities. Sleepy Hollow would be such a cool place to visit!

This is a great list! Check out the zoo when you go to Rochester – it’s on the smaller side, but still fun!
