5 Things I’ve Been Meaning to Do

Things I've Been Meaning to Do

As I was embracing June 1st the other day, I thought about all the things that I’ve been meaning to do lately. There are a lot of things. And I was like, it’s a new month, why am I not doing these things now?

I know some of you are in the same boat as me. You have a bunch of stuff that you’d like to do, goals you’d like to accomplish, products you’ve been meaning to try. You feel like you have all the time in the world to get those things done so you put it off. And you put it off. And then suddenly, you’re 65 and you’ve still never done those things. Okay, that last part might not be true. But it could be! So I’m putting an end to that. And I’m going to share some things that I’ve been meaning to do and hopefully by the end of this month I’ll do them. And if I don’t, there’s always next month. But hopefully this post will encourage you guys to get started on all those projects, all those trips, all those goals you’ve been “meaning to get to”. And it’ll help keep me accountable.

Drink more water.

I’ve said this for probably a year now. I don’t drink enough water. And I want to get better at drinking more water. I have a Fitbit and I look at the app at least once every day and there’s a convenient little water tracker on there. So starting on June 1st, I’ve been tracking my water and working at drinking at least 64 oz per day. Right now I’m only at half of that. But hopefully by the end of June I’m drinking closer to 64 oz and I’m feeling healthier!

I used to keep a journal pretty much all throughout elementary school and middle school. Then I stopped. I wish I didn’t. Reading through my old journals and diaries is something I love doing (because it’s hilarious, mostly) and I’d love to start writing one again. Even if it’s literally just a brain dump of everything I’ve been doing, or doodles, or to do lists, I want to start keeping a journal again. Now’s the time to start.

5 Things I've Been Meaning to Do

Exercise 3x per week.

I did this for a while at the beginning of the year, but as the semester went on, my workouts tapered off. Which is fine, it happens. But I’m going to get back at it. By the end of this month, I’ll be in NY with Ryan hitting up the gym almost every day, so I know it’ll get easier to achieve this goal. But for now I’m making it my goal to take Grace on a long walk at least 3x per week and get my heart pumping!

Try a face mask.

This one I can already check off the list (if you follow me on Snapchat you’ve already seen the process and the review lol). But I’ve been dying to try a face mask for probably too long. It’s embarrassing. Have I ever mentioned I suck at being a girl? Anyway, I finally went to Target and picked up one of these cheap (but good) face masks at Cristina’s recommendation (thanks gf!) and went to town. It was magical. And I wanted to do another one the next night but I resisted because I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to do a face mask every day (right? I have no clue. Like I said, I suck at being a girl).

Learn how to hand letter.

This has been something I’ve wanted to try for a while but I just can’t bring myself to pick up the pen and do it. I get super nervous about trying new things (especially when I know I’ll probably be awful at it) but I seriously envy anyone who can flawlessly and effortlessly hand letter. I even follow a bunch of hand lettering Instagram accounts to torture myself. But no more. I’m gonna do it. I’m gonna learn!

Hopefully this post inspired you to get after one (or more!) of those things you’ve been “meaning to do”. Let me know one thing you’re gonna do for yourself this month!

  • 30A Street Style

What a good idea to work on hand lettering. Looks so fun!

    • Right?! I love following hand lettering accounts they’re so addicting and mesmerizing to watch. I bought a hand lettering book yesterday and I can’t wait to get started.

  • Shelby Howell

I’ve been OBSESSED with hand lettering videos, they’re mesmerizing! I want all the fancy markers & paint they use, but I don’t have the time to commit to practicing it (ugh). I hope you master it!!

    • Thank you Shelby! I just ordered a hand lettering book. It should be here by next week, I can’t wait to get started. I’ll probably be tacking my progress on Snapchat!

  • I’ve always been trying to drink more water!!
    xo, Syd

    • It’s such a great goal to try to achieve! We’ll see if I can actually do it!

  • Anna Hubbard

I need to get started on journaling too! You were so right when you said it’s funny to look back on old entries because you learn so much about certain things as time goes on. Lettering is something I’ve been wanting to try also!

    • I can’t wait to journal again! I feel like I might talk about less embarrassing things now LOL.

  • Love this post! I’ve been wanting to try a face mask too, so I will try out the one you recommend! Thanks for sharing :)

    • They’re super cheap too! Perfect ones to get for first-timers like us 😉

  • I’ve been meaning to do a lot of these things myself! My dermatologist told me to use a face mask once a week, but I can’t remember the last time I used it! I’ve been wanting to use those new sheet face masks that Sephora has.

    • I’ve never heard of those masks! I’ll have to check them out. Thanks for commenting, Brooke!

  • Drinking more water has helped so much! Facemasks are awesome too.
    xoxo, Jenny

    • I can’t wait to see how different I feel after actually drinking the right amount of water lol.

  • I’ve been trying to get into journaling more too. I find it’s helpful if I get a book about journaling. One of my favorites is Find Your Happy. It gives you prompts to write about everyday. Another one I’m interested in is Let It Out by Katie Dalebout. She’s one of my favorite podcasters!

    • That’s a great idea! I’ll have to look into those books. Thanks Emily!

  • The water goal is surprisingly achievable – especially when you’ve got a cute bottle! Good luck with these goals!

    Sunny | astoldbysunny.com

    • So true! I just bought a new tumbler at Target the other day and I can’t wait to use it! Thanks Sunny!

  • I’ve been meaning to read more so I challenged myself to read a book/week haha.

    Alix | http://www.apintsizedlife.com

    • That’s what I like to hear! I hope you reach your goal!

  • ashley

I have been meaning to read more, exercise more, and drink more water!

    • Yas girl! All great things. I find it’s easy to get through books when you commit to reading at least 1 chapter every night. You’ll be surprised how much reading you get done without having to devote a ton of time!

  • Michelle Champalanne

I’ve been meaning to start journaling again, too. It’s such a great way to log your memories over the years…and a perfect excuse to keep buying cute notebooks! Haha!

    • Yes, definitely! I plan on getting a new journal/notebook just for the sole purpose of journaling haha.

  • Oh my gosh…I would love to hand letter. I even bought a book to learn. One of these days!

    • Which book did you buy? I bought one off of Amazon the other day, I can’t wait to use it!

  • I would love to learn how to hand letter. Someday!

    • It’s definitely a dream of mine haha. Hopefully this summer I can work on it!

  • Ashley

YES to all of these! I have been meaning to do almost all of these too! I used to journal all of the time and it was really therapeutic and relaxing for me! I really need to start again!

    xo Ashley

    • Tell me about it! Journaling was one of my favorite things to do as a kid (I was a weirdo lol) and I can’t believe I don’t do it at all anymore!

  • Amy

Cute tumblrs and water bottles always makes me drink more water! Also, if you want a little flavor (and to make your water IG worthy) you can always add some fruit! Good luck on your goals for this month girly!

    Amy | Pastel N Pink

    • Thanks Amy! I’ve been using my new tumbler from Target and it has definitely helped!

  • nicole simonetti

My roommate is obsessed w/ face masks and as a result, now I am too. I’ve highly recommend incorporating them into your skincare routine! x Nicole | http://www.thestyledrabbit.com

    • Face masks are my new fav! Which face masks do you like to use?

  • Amen to all of these! I need to do them too.

  • Audrey Stowe

wow so awesome!! Yeah I’ve been trying to workout 4-5x a week and it’s been more like barely twice LOL

    • HAHA! I take my dog on walks and that’s about as “fit” as I’m getting lately lol.

  • I have faith in you gf! I find that I’m more apt to drink more water if I drink it out of a water bottle!

    Rachel / http://www.seashellsandsparkles.com

    • Yes! I’ve been using my tumbler and it has helped SO much!

  • LeighAnn Searle

You can do it!! I really need to make a list like this and stick to it

    • I’m doing pretty well so far (surprisingly)! Thanks girl!

  • Making lists like this always holds me accountable! Great job! Xoxo Mindy

    • Thanks Mindy! I thought it would help me too that’s why I decided to post about it!

  • This actually reminds me of a post I wrote awhile back! It’s so easy to get caught up in your daily routine (or for me, caught up in social media and binge watching TV shows…whoops!) and not work on accomplishing goals/trying new things. You’ve got this, though! May as well knock out a few of these before the pressure of applying to grad school starts. Ah!

    • Haha, exactly! Yikes! I’m doing pretty well so far so hopefully this month’s list is a success!

  • Lauren Carnes

Exercising 3 times a week is on my list too! So far, I’m doing fairly well! Any times is better than no times at all! 😉

    • EXACTLY! Thanks so much for your comment Lauren :)

  • Laura Friedel Matney

    Such great goals!

    • Thank you Laura! I’ve been doing pretty well with them so far :)

  • Elena

Oh, yes!!! Similar to things I’VE been meaning to do! Cheers to summer and more time to do those things!

    • Thanks Elena! I’ve been having a good time knocking these off my list :)

  • Theresa Bailey

Yes, me too! I’m doing the workout 3x a week thing so one thing down :)

  • Miranda

Oooh, Now I want to learn hand lettering :)
