Recent Reads and Reviews

If you read my May Rewind, you’d know that I read FOUR books this month. But actually, that number has increased to FIVE because I finished a book a few days after I posted the rewind. Five books in the month of May is well over what I expected so I’m really happy! I promised that I’d fill you guys in on what I’m reading this summer and what I think about each book so I’m going to do my best to review each book without giving away too many spoilers!

Never Never (Part 2 + 3) by Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher

Never Never Colleen Hoover Tarryn Fisher Book Cover

I read the second and third parts of the Never Never series this month. I finishedย the first part when I was in Cancun in January because I read through theย stack of books I brought and it was up for free on Kindle! Colleen Hoover is one of my favorite authors but I couldn’t fall in love with this 3-part series. I did finish it, but I hated how it was broken up into three 150-page parts. It broke up the story too much, I think this could definitely read better as one solid book. I also wasn’t super thrilled with the ending because I was expecting something much different.

Overall, I’d have to give this series 3.5/5 stars.ย

Landline by Rainbow Rowell

I also finally got around to reading Landline this month and I actually wasn’t that thrilled with it. I thought that the premise of the story was interesting but I wasn’t super invested in Georgie, the main character. I was sort of annoyed by her decisions and that made it hard for me to connect with her. I did finish this book, though, which says something!

3/5 stars

Swear on This Life by Renee Carlino

I got Swear on this Life as an ARC through the NetGalley website. It releases on August 9th, so I can’t say too much about it but it was one of my favorite reads this month. The book is a story within a story and it was super interesting, I couldn’t put it down. I read most of it in one sitting, which only happens with books that I’m in love with. I suggest either pre-ordering or hunting for this book in August when it releases! I’ll post a more detailed review on Goodreads closer to the release date.

4.5/5 stars

Still Alice by Lisa Genova

I finally read Still Alice this month and it did not disappoint. I absolutely loved this book. It was heartbreaking, informative, and interesting all at the same time. It tells the story of Alice, a 50-year-old Harvard psychology professor who begins to notice that she is forgetting things more than usual. She chalks it up to menopause until she goes for a run and forgets which way is home. Still Alice tells the story of one woman’s journey through Alzheimer’s disease and how it affects every single aspect of her life. I loved how realistic this story was, it’s definitely a book that will stick with you forever.
