Music Monday: Study Playlist

Study Playlist

It has been a few weeks since my last Music Monday post, so I wanted to jump back in and share some of my favorite songs that I listen to while I study.

I haven’t always listened to music while studying (and I still don’t listen to it every time I’m flipping through index cards or reading the text book), but I find it helpful to listen to something especially for those long study sessions where it feels like the information is becoming overwhelming. Most recently, I was studying for a neuro exam and I just felt completely bombarded with info and I really wanted to relax myself and make the study experience a little more “enjoyable” (because, really, there’s no way to make studying fun). Cue my study playlist!

I have a hard time listening to music with words while I’m reading or studying because, since I like music so much, I’m always focused in on the words or message a song is getting across. SO. All of these songs have no words and just a really pretty or fun melody. I hope you enjoy!

Chocolate (Tribute to The 1975) — Vitamin String Quartet

Okay, okay, so I didn’t say you wouldn’t KNOW the songs I’m providing! I love love love the Vitamin String Quartet and this is one of my favorite songs by The 1975. It’s such a fun melody even without words (or instruments other than strings!)

River Flows in You — Yiruma

I fell in love with this song when I was in middle school. It’s such a beautiful melody and really relaxes me. I used to listen to this to fall asleep!

Forces of Attraction — Johann Johannsson

After I saw The Theory of Everything, I was completely hooked on the soundtrack. It’s absolutely beautiful and this song is one of my favorites from the movie.

Lighthouse Avenue — Steve Dawson

Acoustic guitar is one of my favorite instruments. This melody by Steve Dawson is especially relaxing and is pleasant to listen to!

Lacrimosa — Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Alright I’ll admit it. I was (and still am!) an extreme choir nerd and in middle school we sang this piece and I thought it was absolutely beautiful.

Those are my top 5 picks! Obviously 5 songs won’t last you through those long study sessions but the “discover” tab on Spotify has allowed me to pick from so many study and focus playlists. I find a new one practically every day and I think they’re all amazing. Good luck studying!

Do you listen to music while you study or read? What genre do you like to listen to most?

These are such awesome suggestions and I’ll definitely be checking these out next time I study. My personal favorites are anything by Ludovico Einaudi, Claude Debussy, or John Williams. Sometimes if I’m looking for something more ambient (especially for reading) I’ll go for Roger Winfield’s Aeolian Harps layered over the sound of rain. I love hearing other people’s study playlists so I’m so glad you shared! 🙂

Thanks so much for your comment, Emily! I will definitely have to check those artists out. I can already imagine the harps layered over rain and it sounds absolutely perfect!

I love using Spotify to discover new songs! It’s been such a great tool to get me through the bus rides to and from work every day. I loved studying with Music when I was in college and know how helpful it can be.

Right?! The 1975 is amazing. As soon as I saw there was a strings cover of Chocolate I about died. It was just as good as I imagined it’d be. Thanks for leaving a comment, Sami!
