October Reads + Reviews

October Reads and Reviews

If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you’ve probably heard how excited I was to have been able to read TWO books so far this semester. Even though I’m super busy, I’ve still been finding time to read before bed most nights and on weekends. If you want to keep up with my current reads in real-time, make sure you follow me on Goodreads!

A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall 3/5 stars

A Little Something Different

This book was insanely adorable and also a super quick read. It’s is all about two college kids who are both into each other but are too shy to act on their feelings. The book was unique because it was told in fourteen different view points. They ranged from the campus squirrel to their professor! Other than that, I didn’t really think there was anything super exciting or revolutionary about the novel. I would definitely recommend it as a quick, light read that doesn’t require much thinking. It was a good break from most books I read that end up being super heavy and/or sad. I didn’t cry once while reading this (which I’m saying is a good thing)!

I did wish that there was at least one part of the story told in Gabe and Lea’s perspective but I understand why the author wanted to leave it up to the reader’s imagination. There were also a few times where I got confused about whose viewpoint I was reading in and had to stop and go back to figure out who I was supposed to be reading as. I think this also left me feeling a bit disconnected from the main characters but, like I said, it was a quick and lighthearted story that I would be fast to recommend to someone who has been searching for something cute and fun to read.

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes 5/5 stars

I absolutely loved this book. I had been wanting to read Me Before You for a while now and since I learned it was going to be a movie pretty soon I decided I needed to check it out. I bought it for my Kindle because it was really cheap one day but I honestly would pay $20 for this book. It was a little slow to start but in the end this story wrecked me in the best (and worst) ways possible.

I read some spoilers before I finished and was really mad at myself because it kind of ruined the ending for me but it didn’t affect how much I absolutely loved this book. It was set in England so some of the language threw me off at first but I quickly got used to it. Highly recommend this book to anyone in need of a romance or who loves to read about sarcastic jerk main characters (that are also extremely lovable). I’m considering picking up the sequel but I’ve read mixed reviews of it. I’m pretty satisfied with how this book ended so I’m not sure I will attempt to read it. If you’ve read After You let me know how you liked it and if it’s worth reading!

Ugly Love

Currently Reading

So right now I’m reading November 9 by Colleen Hoover. She is bae. She is my favorite author and I love following her on social media. She’s great. I’m only about 30% into it and I love where it is going so far. I hope I will be able to finish it before Thanksgiving!

I also have Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover started. I was about 20 pages in before I broke down and bought November 9 (which is her newest book). There has been so much hype for November 9 on her social media so I needed to get my hands on it ASAP!

What are y’all currently reading? Anything I should add to my TBR list?

Great reviews! I haven’t actually heard of Colleen Hoover, but I love it when people have favourite authors (I feel like it’s so rare, but that may just be me..) – so I’ll have to check her out! 🙂

I’m currently reading Go Set a Watchman and Eat, Pray, Love – but I haven’t touched either in weeks since I’m working on my Masters thesis. Can’t wait for the holidays so I can catch up!

I even have Me Before You in my bookshelf, but haven’t read it yet! Maybe I’ll have to bring it with me to Dubai next month for some pool reading 🙂

Ah Me Before You is a tearjerker. SUCH a good book. I haven’t read the sequel yet, either. If you do end up reading it, please post a review!

Oh I loved Me Before You so much!! I am going to read After You in the next month or so, I will let you know how it is! I’m currently reading Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert, I’ve heard it’s one of those classic books everyone should read and I’m enjoying it so far!

The first book sounds really interesting, I bet it was fun for the author to try and write from all of those different perspectives but I could totally see how it could get confusing! I’m glad you’ve had a little more time to read, I know reading is a major stress reliever for me.

A Little Something Different sounds like such a fun read! 14 viewpoints including a squirrel!? YES!

Jennifer E. Smith is amazing! Anything by her is just written so beautifully and it’s not completely about the romances. I also suggest Omens by Kelley Armstrong (I’m on the sequel Visions). The Night Circus and My Favorite Mistake are also great reads but I can’t remember the authors’ names.
