Pittsburgh: Summer 2015 Bucket List

Pittsburgh Bucket List! Things to do & see while in Pittsburgh, PA!

This summer, I have an internship in Pittsburgh. I have until mid-August to do some cool things here and I figured I’d let you know what my list consists of. For the things we’ve already done, I’ve added some pictures and a blurb about our time at the place/event. If you live in Pittsburgh or know of some other cool things to do while I’m here, tell me! I’m very open to expanding this list.

1. Visit the Andy Warhol Museum

We went to the museum on Sunday, June 28th. We each got in for the student price (we’ve been using our Temple ID’s everywhere around here!) and they told us to start on the 7th floor and work our way down. The top floor was all about Warhol’s childhood and schooling and each level we went down was a different decade. I learned a lot of things about him that I hadn’t known before. The art was really cool although I am the farthest thing from an art critic! It took us about an hour to get through the whole museum. Here’s a picture of me standing in the hallway entrance because you aren’t allowed to take pictures inside (obviously).

2. Visit the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium

Ryan and I went to the Pittsburgh Zoo on Sunday, August 2nd. We had tried to get to the zoo for a few weekends but either the weather wasn’t great or we just were too tired to get out of bed at a decent time, haha! We saw tons of different animals and Ryan brought his new DSLR to play around with. We even ate lunch at a restaurant which was right next to the giraffes and zebras!

3. See the sights at the Duquesne Incline

Ryan and I stopped here on June 21 (the first day of summer!) after eating at Burgatory. It cost $10 for both of us to go up and come back down after checking out the sights. We were up there just as the sun was slowly beginning to set over the city so I got a cool picture with some really great light on the city. I want to go back again when it’s dark and see the skyline at night!

 4. Check out Station Square

I didn’t get to take a picture for this one (it was super rainy and gross when we went) but Ryan and I ate dinner at Houlihan’s on August 3rd! There were tons of different shops and places to eat and we even got up close and personal with the soccer stadium!

5. Visit Carnegie Library and check out some books… Hang out in Schenley Park

We stopped here on Sunday, June 7th. It was a really nice day so there were tons of people outside at the park. I signed up for a Carnegie Library card and we browsed through the library for about an hour. Ryan and I both ended up getting books and we ended our adventure by laying on the grass at Schenley Park and reading. It was a great day!

6. Attend a concert in Pittsburgh

Ryan surprised me with tickets to see Imagine Dragons when they came to Pittsburgh on June 19th. The concert was absolutely incredible. I would go see them again in a heartbeat! The concert was at the CONSOL Energy Center which was a really nice venue, all things considered (I’m a Flyers fan).

7. See a Pirates game

This was one of the first things Ryan and I did when we were here. We went to see the Pirates play the Mets on May 24th. It was a really hot day and we both got pretty sunburnt but it was a fun way to spend our Sunday afternoon! Afterwards, we got dinner at NOLA on the Square which was within walking distance of the stadium.

9. Explore Downtown

10. Visit the Mattress Factory (modern art museum)

11. See some stand-up comedy

Ryan and I were lucky enough to go see Pete Davidson from SNL at Improv comedy club! There were no phones allowed during the show, of course, but I did snap this picture of the sign outside before we entered the building. Pete was hilarious and I really enjoyed laughing the night away with Ryan!

12. ICE CREAM (Dave & Andy’s and Milkshake Factory)

Ryan and I went to the Milkshake Factory after our dinner at Bar Louie at the Waterfront. The place was pretty small but they had a couple of tables and some places where you could stand and drink your milkshakes. They didn’t just have milkshakes, though! There was TONS of chocolate on display and there were some other things on the menu besides milkshakes. Enjoy this mouth-watering picture I took of the chocolate display…

Ryan and I stopped at Dave & Andy’s after we spent the afternoon at Point State Park! The ice cream was really good and you could tell that everything was homemade. Yummy! I got chocolate ice cream and Ryan got cookie dough and they were both amazing. Can’t wait to go back and try another flavor 🙂

13. Point State Park fountain

Ryan and I spent one sunny Sunday afternoon at the Point State Park. It’s a pretty small park right by the water. You can actually see it in the picture I took at the Duquesne Incline! It was a hot day so I sat on the edge of the fountain with my feet in soaking up some sunshine. There were people lounging around the fountain all afternoon! After we got too hot we went over to some trees and laid our blanket out to relax for an hour or two. Then we took a trip to Dave & Andy’s to get some ice cream! (see the picture above)
